Advantages of choosing a Vetbed made from 100% pure wool

Wool can be used all year round, and its natural elasticity provides a soft and supportive surface for your four-legged friend.

The super lovely wool Vetbed mats are certified by British Wool, which guarantees adherence to the six pillars of sheep farming: animal welfare, environmental sustainability, quality assurance, traceability, social responsibility, and the use of non-mulesed wool.

This not only ensures that your dog gets a comfortable and safe resting place both summer and winter but also that you support responsible and sustainable agriculture.

Wool is primarily known for its significant elasticity, making it highly flexible and pliable in relation to body movements. At the same time, wool is resistant to water and dirt and has a significant temperature-regulating property. This ability to retain heat surpasses most other materials while promoting skin breathability and oxygen exchange. Notably, wool can also absorb liquid up to a third of its own weight, ensuring dryness and comfort for the dog.

As an added benefit, wool possesses antibacterial properties, contributing to lasting freshness and comfort. Delving into the structure of wool reveals that it primarily consists of protein, typically associated with sheep's hair. This complex, layered structure of fine fibers gives wool its characteristic features. However, the outer layer of wool can felt together if treated incorrectly, resulting in a locked structure. To preserve the qualities of wool, it is recommended to wash it at a maximum of 30 degrees.

Due to wool's natural resistance to water and dirt, it is rarely necessary to wash it. Wool actually has an inherent ability to regenerate itself, especially when aired outdoors in fresh air. Therefore, it is a good idea to let your wool Vetbed air out, especially when humidity is high, as this is most effective in maintaining freshness and cleanliness.

As an extra safety feature, there is an anti-slip backing so the mat does not slide when the dog lies down or gets up. It is also much gentler for weaker dogs to get up from.

Wool is a living material that requires skilled hands to shape it into the perfect mat. In the UK, training to become a wool sorter takes a full 8 years, which testifies to the expertise and care required to produce quality wool. This ensures that our Vetbed mats are not only of the highest quality but also created with care and dedication by artisans with a deep understanding of wool's unique properties.
