2 ml scent tubes made of hard plastic with a hole in the lid are a popular and versatile tool for Nose Work training. They are used to store the scent source itself, allowing you to easily and controllably practice searches in different environments.
You use them by placing a cotton swab, felt ball, or similar item in the tube and adding essential oil or hydrosol. The hole in the lid allows the scent to escape in an appropriate amount, giving the dog a clear, yet concentrated, scent source to work with.
The difficulty level of the hiding spots can easily be adapted based on how far your dog has progressed in its Nose Work training. The tubes can be placed clearly visible for beginners or hidden more challenging for the experienced search dog.
The scent tubes have a practical size that makes them easy to hide in many places – for example, in a tree stump or a woodpile – only the imagination sets the limits :-)
