Target plate with letter for dog training - Ø 23 cm

Non-slip rubber target with letter. Here you can get a target with your dog's initial.

A target is an indispensable aid in dog sports. A target is an aid that helps your dog better/faster understand certain parts of a specific exercise.

Targets are used for teaching in many obedience exercises:

Send-away to the field

• Plate target: Place a plate as a target in the middle (at the back, depending on the dog) of the field. Teach your dog to run to the target and stand on it.
• Gradual removal: Once the dog is confident in running to the target, you can gradually remove the target and reward the dog for running to the middle of the field without the physical target.

Position changes

• Target plate: Use a target plate to train the dog to change positions (stand, sit, down) at a distance. Place the plate and train the dog to perform the positions while standing on the plate.
• Remove target: As the dog becomes proficient in the exercise, you can remove the plate and let the dog perform the positions without the target.

Directed retrieve

• Target plate: Use a target plate to train the dog to run straight towards the middle retrieve object. Place the target plate in front of the middle retrieve object and teach your dog to turn towards you before being commanded to take the middle one.

Send-away - Blind point

• Target plate: Use a target plate to train the dog to run straight towards nothing. Place up to 5 target plates and let your dog run over the plates until the dog, on your command, should turn around on one of the placed plates.

Benefits of target training in obedience

• Precision: Helps teach your dog precise positions and movements.
• Clear communication: Gives your dog a clear and visual indication of what is expected of them.
• Improved focus: Helps keep your dog's attention on the task.
• Strengthened bond: Creates a positive and cooperative training experience for your dog.

Tips for success

• Consistent marking and rewarding: Use a clicker or a verbal marker (like "yes," "okay," etc.) to precisely mark the desired behavior and immediately reward the dog with a treat.
• Gradual increase in difficulty: Start with simple exercises and gradually increase the difficulty as your dog becomes more confident in the exercises.
• Short and positive sessions: Keep training sessions short (5-10 minutes) and always end on a positive note where your dog succeeds.
