Nose Work training is a fun and stimulating activity for dogs, where they use their fantastic sense of smell to find specific scents hidden in their surroundings.

I love training Nose Work with all my dogs. Especially Haley, who was born deaf in her right ear. She has a bit of trouble hearing all the commands in obedience. But Nose Work requires much less communication than obedience.

What is Nose Work about?

In Nose Work training, the dog learns to search for specific scents (such as lavender, anise or eucalyptus), which are hidden in various environments – both indoors, outdoors, on vehicles and in containers. It resembles the work drug dogs and rescue dogs do, but is adapted as a fun and challenging sport for all types of dogs and owners.

The purpose of Nose Work

• Provide physical and especially mental activation

For whom?

Nose Work is for all dogs – big and small, young and old. It is especially good for:

How is it trained?

You often start by teaching the dog to recognize a specific scent (e.g., lavender). The training is built up with increasing difficulty, where the scent is placed more difficult and more discreetly.
